Promoting and preserving cultural heritage through storytelling

UNESCO Dhaka and the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP) are implementing a project titled “Empowering Indigenous Youth for Living Heritage Preservation through Storytelling in Bangladesh”. The initiative focuses on capacity-building and community engagement through a participatory storytelling approach among the Bishnupriya Manipuri and the Khasia peoples in Sylhet.
To implement this project effectively, UNESCO Dhaka will partner with anubad.net, an organisation with proven experience in cultural documentation, storytelling, and language-based projects. Anubad.net will support UNESCO Dhaka and ICHCAP by mentoring workshops, selecting and maintaining communications with youth participants, as well as documenting and editing the stories that the participants will submit to promote and preserve their unique living heritage.
This project will focus on preserving the rich and variegated literary and cultural heritage of the Bishnupriya Manipuri and the Khasia peoples. 20 youth participants, 10 from each community, will be selected through an open call soon.
After the selection, anubad.net will organise and conduct a three-day residential workshop for the successful participants. The workshop is aimed at equipping the participants.
An open call for applications will be released soon.
